When considering what kind of gift to give, almost everyone gravitates to brand new items. Most of us have been indoctrinated from a young age that new = better, and this has influenced how we approach our search for the perfect gift. But we are here to tell you that new *isn’t* always better, and sometimes the very best gifts are those steeped in history. From a unique thrift store find to an antique piece discovered at a flea market or online auction house, a vintage gift can transform into a timeless heirloom loved by the recipient for a lifetime.

What’s the trick to finding the perfect piece and figuring out who the “right” recipient is? 👏 Know 👏 Your 👏 Audience. Vintage gifts are typically best given to those you have close relationships with. In order for the gift to hold true value for the recipient, it shouldn’t come across as completely random. Instead, it should be something they can relate to or identify with, whether that means a connection to their past or their present.
